County Executive Schuh: “Just Say No” to Medicinal Marijuana

September 18, 2015 | By | Reply More

Grandma PotAs scores of states, counties, and municipalities nationwide are relaxing laws prohibiting possession of marijuana, Anne Arundel County Executive, Steve Schuh is bucking the trend and digging in his heels. In an announcement on Monday, Schuh announced that he would introduce a bill in council next week that would prevent medicinal marijuana operations, including cultivation and distribution, within the county.

“Call me a Republican square if you want,” said Schuh, “But I don’t believe that Mary-Jane or ganja or reefer or whatever the kids are calling it these days is the solution to any of our medical problems here in Anne Arundel County. You have glaucoma or are going through chemotherapy? Too bad. Take an Anacin. Suck it up.”

The bill not only caught fellow Republicans by surprise, but seemed to garner little support. Even the most conservative of council members seemed bewildered by the bill.

“I guess I can get behind this legislation if pot-smoking hippies are upset by it. But, to be honest, I haven’t really researched the issue, “ said Michael Peroutka, the Constitution Party member representing Broadneck and Severna Park in County Council. “Frankly, I think this whole issue just detracts from the gay marriage fiasco in Kentucky. We should be standing up for the rights of self-righteous, frumpy County Clerks everywhere.”

Schuh found himself on the defensive immediately after his announcement.

“Look, I’m all for personal choice, but not if you choose pot. Studies I’ve seen show that marijuana is highly addictive, much more so than heroin. I can’t tell you how many families I’ve seen devastated by marijuana addiction. It is the worst of the worst when it comes to drugs. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING is more harmful than marijuana. If you’ve ever seen someone strung out on marijuana terrorizing the community, you understand why I am introducing this bill. ”

The bill will go to County Council at their next meeting on September 21.
